ECU AI Strategy and Priorities
Harnessing AI is critical to ECU’s strategic direction of Future Focused, Innovation Driven.
At ECU we are exploring and experimenting with AI by building the foundations necessary to drive transformation in a responsible, secure, and strategically focused way across academics, research, and institutional operations.
Priority 1: AI for Learner Success
We will adopt a learner-centered approach that integrates AI experiences across academic and experiential settings, fostering AI competency within each field of study and empowering students to become leaders in the workforce of the future.
Key Objectives
- Make AI Literacy courses available for all students
- Build AI Fluency within degree programs to create student competency in using AI within the workforce
- Cultivate AI Experiences inside and outside the classroom to provide hands-on learning opportunities aimed at building workforce skills
Priority 2: AI for Research, Discovery, and Innovation
We will leverage artificial intelligence to enhance ECU’s research competitiveness, accelerate discovery, and expand the societal impact of scholarship across disciplines.
Key Objectives
- Equip researchers with AI tools and training to accelerate the pace of discovery across disciplines
- Expand AI-powered research infrastructure and computing resources to support faculty and student scholarship
- Foster interdisciplinary AI collaboration to strengthen ECU’s research competitiveness and societal impact
Priority 3: AI for Operational Efficiency and Institutional Growth
We will build AI into our core infrastructure, processes, governance, and technologies to improve fiscal health, increase operational efficiency, and support the workforce of the future.

- Enable individual productivity by providing AI tools and training to the ECU workforce
- Transform institutional processes by using AI for efficiency and effectiveness
- Utilize AI to help solve our most critical institutional challenges
